Paper towels are one of those things we grab without thinking. A spill here, a quick wipe there, and suddenly the roll is gone. Cutting back is easier than you might think, and your wallet will notice too.
1. Keep reusable cloths within reach
The easiest habit to break is the one you have a replacement for. Keep a small stack of microfiber cloths on the counter or in a drawer right next to where the paper towel holder used to be.
2. Use a cloth for everyday counter wipes
A damp microfiber cloth handles crumbs, spills and sticky spots on countertops better than paper, and it does not fall apart.
3. Dry your hands on a towel, not paper
A clean hand towel near the kitchen sink removes one of the most common reasons we reach for the roll.
4. Clean glass and mirrors with microfiber
Paper leaves lint on glass. A microfiber cloth and plain water gives you a streak-free finish without a single sheet of paper.
5. Use cloth napkins at the table
They look nicer, feel better and can be washed with the rest of your laundry.
6. Store leftovers with lids, not paper
Reusable containers keep food fresh without needing paper towels to cover or wrap it.
7. Make washing part of the routine
Toss used cloths in a small basket and wash them with your regular load. Having a clean supply ready is what makes the switch stick.
Start with one or two swaps and build from there. Small changes add up quickly.
